Ingrown toenail surgery

Ingrown toenails are a common problem, affecting people of all ages.

They are a characterised by pain along the edge of the toenail in the groove that the nail edge sits (the sulcus). In some instances, they can lead to serious infections, that can even affect the bones in the toe and lead to long term use of antibiotics. Commonly the nail has some degree of deformity in it, usually related to an old injury, and this is the basis for ongoing and recurrent pain.

Testimonial

Sorry for the delay in this, I have been flat out with work lately. I just wanted to take the time to thank you for your professional service and the great job you did with regards to my ingrown toe nail a few weeks back.

The treatment you supplied had to be the fastest and most painless I have ever had for an ingrown toenail and it gives me confidence in knowing if I ever have any more problems I can simply book an appointment and I will be back on my feet in the very literal sense. I was able to go on to play indoor soccer that night, and my team is no one game away from a Division 1 Grand final birth.

I will gladly recommend you to friends and family, and please feel free to use the above as a testimonial.

Warm Regards,      Tristan  -  Sales Consultant  (26.2.2007)

In chronic and recurrent ingrown toenails, the best long term solution is a partial nail excision, which is a minor surgical procedure performed painlessly under local anaesthetic, and involving removal of the outside edge of the nail, along with the part of the nail where the nail grows from (the matrix). Typically a strong chemical (phenol) is used to cauterise the cells that grow the nail to prevent regrowth of the outside edge of nail. there is no need for a stay in hospital, as this can be performed safely and conveniently in the office, and there is usually minimal discomfort after the procedure.  This particular  procedure has been well researched, and proven to be the most effective treatment for ingrown toenails, with a low likelihood of recurrence.

If you think you have an ingrown toenail, feel free to consult with one of our podiatrists to discuss wether your condition is suitable for surgery.
